Steve Vai born June 6th, 1960 in Long Island,
New York, known for his work with many
stars while also guest appearing in the 1986
movie "Crossroads" playing the "Evil One" he
has always been known for coming up with
something unexpected and often weird
sounding phrasers.
He started his career transcribing for
guitarist Frank Zappa who was so impressed
by this 19 year old guitarists ability that he
employed him for the job shredding out
impossible guitar parts.
His big break came in 1989 when guitarist David Lee Roth and Steve teamed up to release two albums "Eat Them and Smile", and "Skyscraper".
At the start of 1989 Steve left the band and went on to record a second solo album before putting together his own band, but nothing came together with the plans shortly after he was hired by David Coverdale to play on the long overdue Whitesnake LP, filling the place for Adrian Vandenburg.
Between the band and the world tour Steve managed to finally put out his second solo album titled, "Passion and Warfare".
In Steve's playing approach he normally has three mode's of choice ranging from the dorian, mixolydian to the lydian mode, but what sets Steve apart from the other guitarists out there is the way he approaches his scales he will often use the above modes in there complete form compared to others who would choose the blues or classical scales as preference.
